The Accurate Art Of Breastimation

Often, women come into Inside Story Fine Lingerie and request to be measured for a bra-fitting.  I can’t tell you how many looks of scepticism I’ve received over the last 7 years, when I say that we do not use measuring tapes.

There are many misconceptions when it comes to purchasing a bra.  The most common is that the woman is accommodating her cup-size.  It’s actually the band-size that is the key to a perfect fit!  For example:  let’s take the famous “D” cup.  Most people (men especially!) believe that a D cup is huge! – of Pamela Anderson proportions!  Sorry to burst those bubbles but here’s the actual scoop:

30D, 32D, 34D, 36D, 38D, 40D – those “D”’s aren’t the same!  On the smaller scale, the smaller the band size, the smaller the “D”.  The same letter cup is directly proportionate to the band size.  I so often see a young girl with a narrow and tiny back but very full breasts purchasing a 38D from places I shall not mention, and it’s atrocious what a disservice she is doing to her quest for bust support!   The back band is riding up and the girls are heading south – so sad.
Ideally, you want the back band on the same level as the cups to have optimal support.  When your straps are falling off your shoulders, it’s because the band on the back is too loose.  We need to snug it up and presto!  Not more shoulder strain and annoying straps falling every few minutes.

So, where does breastimation come in?  It’s part of the process of bra-fitting  that I train every one of my staff to do.  After the crucial backsize is determined (oh, and backfat is minimized- that’s another article altogether!), we breastimate the cup size.  The girls at Inside Story are so good at this, that 9 out of 10 times we get it right the very first time!  Now, that’s all training and extensive product knowledge.

If you’ve never been to an experienced bra-fitting, it’s fun, eye-opening and ego boosting! Come in to Inside Story Fine Lingerie, any day of the week and let us support you!
